Warning...this may go off track...just gonna type what comes into my brain this morning...and I am letting my oven self clean this morning and it may be the fumes
I'm not actually a very patient person. Mostly, is it if something needs to get done, do it now...or I may forget. So I guess you could say it's out of necessity? Okay maybe that's a stretch. But when we move some place I don't really need a transition time. I like to jump right in, look for places to meet people, look for a church to call my family. I guess that is the people person in me.
As I type this though, I realize I am just a bit of a procrastinator...but it is a bit of an insanity saver. I ask myself, "is life gonna end if I don't get this done today?" if the answer is no, I put it off. This is something that took almost 40 years to figure out. I seem to be a lot less stressed about little things in life that don't matter.
For some reason I have been sharing about my wedding day of late. I guess because I now work at a Bible college and there are engagements happening left and right and it makes you look back at your own. Mine was almost 20 years ago. I don't remember much of my wedding...and not because of time because I literally can't remember. I was so sick from anxiety that I was given a kinda strong medication and things are hazy. By the reception I remember more, but the ceremony is almost a complete wash. I was so stressed out the days prior about the little things that I worked myself up into a puking state at our Professional pictures we had taken before the ceremony.(which reminds me I need to go hunt out my Wedding video tape, gonna get it digitalized so I can remember what happened that day.)
Wish I knew then what I know now. But that is why it is called life experience. Everybody says they would do things differently at their wedding. I wished I had learned to breathe a little more. So my advice to brides...be considerate of those attending your wedding, but when 20 different people are telling you to do different things, it's your day...just stick to your budget!!!
Patience is something you teach your kids as well. I find myself humming the Music Machine song "Have patience". I actually found it online and played it for my kids. They were astounded that it was a real song. It's hard to teach patience. I've had to sometimes let my kids learn their own lesson the hard way and not say,"I told you so". They may get "the look" of I told you so, but when I know they got the point I try to leave it alone.
So you may be wondering where I am going with all this? Well sorry to let you all down, it isn't an extremely deep thought. I hate Spring. (Now don't read into this I hate what events happen during spring. I LOVE Easter and the symbol of hope.)I'm talking the weather. I hate this transition of snow slowly disappearing, the mud showing up and slowly drying up. Just rip the bandage off and give me summer. I know why spring has to happen, the snow needs to soak into the ground, trees and plants slowly coming out of hibernation. It's a sign of new life.
But when you have had 2 extremely long winters and a summer that almost didn't exist last year...just gimme summer already! Let me put my pool up and hear my kids splashing around, let me see my son exploring in our bush with the wag of tail of our puppy addition, Bella, right beside him. I wanna see green grass that has to be mowed( or weeds in our case). I want to see the line of campers leaving our town and praying all my friends have a great weekend to unwind and relax! ( this was not meant to be sarcastic, I love my friends, and know how hard they all work). I want to see my little girl smile from ear to ear as she is on top of Spinner in one of riding lessons this summer. JUST GIVE ME SUMMER!!!
But I can be patient. At least I'm not swatting a mosquito right now.
