He started with a headache on Tuesday night and by Wednesday he was completely incapacitated. On Wednesday afternoon we went to a walk in clinic and they said it was just a migraine and gave him tylenol 3 and sent him home. The T-3 didn't do anything but give him the chills. So we went back to the clinic and the other Doctor said he might have meningitis and needs to go straight to the hospital. He said this isn't the scary "you are dead in 12 hours" kind but maybe the viral. Or it might be a brain bleed. Okay. Straight to RUH it was. I guess when you say meningitis you get your own room. So the CT scan was first and ruled out the brain bleed. Thank goodness. Then they wanted to do a lumbar puncture(LP) (spinal tap). At least by now they had started giving him pain meds to ease things up. And started him on anti-viral meds just in case it was the viral meningitis. While not looking forward to the LP, it did ease the immense pressure in Trevor's head. They also saw the fluid was clear and ruled out bacterial meningitis as well. So now he was taken out of isolation and put in another wing of ER to wait for a room. Then meningitis was ruled out. YAY! They took more blood to do tests for many things, like West Nile and similar viruses. By Thursday afternoon, Trevor was tired of being in a very uncomfortable bed and was feeling quite a bit better. The neurologist came to talk to Trevor Thursday around noon and said he would be going home that day, just not sure when. There were a couple of things confusing them. He had no fever or delirium and his white cell count was slightly elevated (which means a viral infection). He said that this was a severe migraine. Enter my sigh of relief. He asked Trevor if he ever has other headaches regularly, Trevor said yes. After describing them, the Doctor said those were migraines. Yes!! Finally a diagnosis on those too! He gave Trevor a sample of a migraine blocker and told him if taken at the right time, will help eliminate the migraines. So at about 6 pm he came home.
These were all firsts for Trevor, he has never had a hospital stay before. Our little dude was excited that he and daddy now had both had IV's!
So now I can take the pillow out of the window and let some sunlight in and not keep the sound down.
Thanks to everyone for thinking and praying for us. It is so appreciated. We are so thankful it wasn't something worse.
