Just had a Colosseo day

Today was a day of a lot more walking but much more intended sight seeing than yesterday. I wondered when we planned this trip, what would it be like to live in the same city as the Colosseum, or even beside it. "I live on the west side, just go to the Colosseum and turn left". Could you imagine giving those directions to your place?!? I think the novelty would wear off eventually, but I was in awe. Not just it's size, but it's age and what events all went on in there.

This is as high up as we could go. It's massive. How could they build something this big without cranes. They said to took 200 oxen and carts  going every day for many months to bring over all the marble that was used. I stood there looking at this monstrous ruin. And I thought, "how many lives ended in that place?". Lives of criminals,prisoners of war and people for their faith. Most for the sport of it, at the will of a ruler...all for power.
