First I am gonna give you some background on my movie tastes so you can get the bigger picture.
I like comedy/romantic comedy the most. I do like action but not the blood guts and gore, I did not like Braveheart. And I do not like horror or sci fi, sorry not a Trekki or a Star Wars fan at all. There might be the odd one out there I like. My favourite actor is George Clooney, although many movies of his of late have not been stellar, like Burn After Reading, which is more like burn your ears out after listening, yikes the swears in that movie! I am looking forward to watching his new one The Descendants. I am not a big Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings fan. Now I know I just lost a lot of you with that last comment, but that's just my taste, and I am more into finding movies we can watch as a family with younger kids(I am not saying I watched all these movies with my kids, most of them are not appropriate for a 7 and 8 year old). Anyways here are some I have watched lately, some are fairly recent and some are older and some are really old.
Here is one of the older ones, but it is a good one. I gained a lot of respect for Zac Efron in this movie. He has to play Matthew Perry gone back to high school, he is so bang on, it's eery. Language is not bad, some more mature themes, but a gooder!
Yes this is more of a teen girl movie, but I liked it. Good acting, clean movie. It is one of those feel good movies. I am not a big Leighton Meester fan , but she was good in this movie
AMAZING movie. Great movie for the family, and it's based on a true story. I really like Ashley Judd and Harry Connick Jr as actors and they are great in this one.
Now many of you will not have heard about this movie, but it actually came out in 2010. Cute but predictable.
This movie was good, Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks together make good chemistry. I t was not the best movie I have ever seen , but it was good.
This movie was horrible. No other way to describe it. If I had only one word to describe it it would be Vulgar.
Now here is a good action movie, the kind I like. I love car chases! I like Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. Dwayne Johnson(The Rock) kinda overacts his part, but I consider that that comic relief in this movie. We saw this in the theatre, and we stayed till past the credits, you need to watch past the credits, you'll be sorry if you didn't!
Cute, funny family movie, Great remake of the kids cartoon from the 80's
BORING!!! I actually didn't even finish watching it. So I really can't give you more of a review.
Kind of a follow up to My Big Fat Greek Wedding. This was cute, but predictable. Still a good movie.
Now here was a nice surprise of a movie. I actually really liked this movie. I expected lots of bad language and that it would be very vulgar, it actually wasn't, there was one small part, but it doesn't go too far. Steve Carrell is awesome in this movie!
Now here was another surprise, but in the bad way. DO NOT WATCH WITH KIDS IN THE HOUSE!! It starts off raunchy and doesn't really recover. There are some good parts in it. But overall I guess my mom-ness in me is just shaking my head.
I just saw this last night in the theatre, good movie, it is kinda a followup of Valentin's Day. Same Director, some same cast some new faces, but it was really good. My 2 fav actors in this are Zac Efron and Jon Bon Jovi.
If this movie is accurate then it's a good one, you never know with Hollywood.
This is on my "to see" list. I have been told it is good.
I started watching this movie but had to stop it, I actually am looking forward to finishing it. Kevin James plays his typical Character of kinda a loser but in a likeable way.
I guess you would call this an action movie, I really liked it. Bradley Cooper is really good in this one.
A friend I was out with to see New Year's Eve hasn't seen Hope Floats(1998), so we said that was the next girls movie night, I think I will also pull out St. Elmo's Fire(1985) too.
So there you have it. I would be interested in hearing what some of you favs are!

Melanie,
We're doing a bit of a movie fest in our house. We got the complete set of Harry Potter for Christmas so are watching all of them. The books, of course, are tons better. Please keep an open mind if your children want to read them as they are super well written - I'm hoping she writes something else one of these days.
Back to movies - my all time favorite. Sliding Doors - an early Gwynth Poltro (spelled wrong I'm sure). Have you seen it? Worth renting or finding on line. Up, also at the top, Dances with Wolves, Schindler's List & Windtalkers. I've probably missed a few - oh yes - Little Women (the remake is ok the original is better).
Bernie
PS neat post - maybe you will do favorite books next to give me something to look forward to reading. I think I'll try to find some of your fav movies.
I have nothing against Harry Potter, especially the books, when my kids are old enough I will definitely let them read them, they just don't interest me that much. Sliding Doors eh? I've never seen that one. Schindler's List was amazing.
As for the books post, that could be a while, I don't have much time these days. The last book I read was The Horse Whisperer, which was good and so much better than the movie.
So have you seen Hope Floats? I like it.
Some of my other fav movies in case you haven't seen them or heard of them: The Ultimate Gift and The Christmas Card.

Yes I Have seen Hope Floats, I really like it, nothing like crying within the first 5 minutes of the movie. I'll have to check the other two out. My all time favourite is Sabrina with Harrison Ford.
