-We survived!
-It didn't sink!
-We caught fish!
-Good Times!
-I'm stuffed!
These kind of give you an overview of the weekend. This was the coldest weekend we have ever had for August Long, but we did see some sun and did get some boating in. Now, for those who know our track record with boats, you are now shocked at the last sentence. Yes we got boating in, yes our boat did not: go only in reverse, not go at all , have to paddle back, did not blow up or sink. We the Rempels now have a boat that works...Thanks Dad!!
The new vessel
So the tube got pulled around the lake and lots of splashing was going on. I even got on the tube. ( yes there were some shocked looks...Andrew). And surprising the lake wasn't even cold.

Driving lesson
Other parts of the weekend always involve eating. Now this has really changed over the years because now we are 10 kids and 10 adults=20 in total. We now eat in shifts, kids first then the adults. And we eat well, great steak Mom!
Kids table...Tim?!?
The August Long weekend is the Grindstone Days for our Park. Many festivities happen over the weekend. Saturday morning is a pancake Breakfast where there are also carnival games for the kids and a Silent Auction. Now as it had stood, we the Rempels have never won anything at the Silent Auction, yet every year, there we stand in the crowd, anxiously awaiting for just one of any of our tickets numbers to be called. Well...this year we broke the curse. Andrew won something, and one of the bigger prizes there! We were all so excited!
On Sunday there are kids games at the beach and then a Beach Volleyball Tourney. The kids games involve races such as : forward race, backwards race, shoe scramble, three legged race, sack race, candy scramble, and water balloon toss. We usually do pretty good in these and come away with some prizes, especially in the 3 and under category( every kid gets a prize). It was sad though when our little guy came away from the Balloon toss crying because he didn't win...it might have something to do with something Trevor might have said to him!!!( ask Trevor).
The 3 and under race
First catch was good!
Concentrating
looks good but was a miss
Oops!
As for the Beach volleyball tourney...we must be getting old...and kids running around...because we didn't enter this year. Usually we are the Grindstone Cowboys, and do pretty good.
It had been raining pretty good for the last few days and when it gets calm on the lake , you drop everything and head for the lake. That's what we did right after the kids races. It got nice and calm and we raced for the boat and the tube. Going right from the dock is really nice. Although the day before we had no dock because it was all under water.
Dock under water
We ended the day off with a fantastic Steak Supper! Funny how a few hours later we were hungry and hunting through the snack closet.
We also celebrate all the Girl's birthdays which happen to all be from July on, we do the boys in May.
The birthday girls
And of course when 3 girls have birthdays there will be clothes. And with clothes you have to have a fashion show.
On the final day, we finally got some fishing done. And our little guy caught his first fish. He caught a fair sized perch. The fish were biting and biting and taking all our minnows. Then Andrew snagged what looked like a pretty big bass, but his line snapped and it got away. A little while later I had a pretty big fish snagged and when I got it to the surface I guess I didn't have it hooked good enough and it got away just as Trevor got the net close to it. So yeah , we have 2 stories about how the fish got away.
Notice we have a dock again!
Being very patient and still
His First Fish!!
Yes there was singing involved, the BTA came up a few times(see last year's long weekend post), and a lot of good fun was had. Thanks again Mom and Dad, it means so much to us how much work you put into the cottages and all the work that goes into the weekend. Thanks so much to all who brought and made food, sorry we couldn't contribute as much as I would have liked.
