As many of you know my Aunt Louise passed away just before Christmas. She had been taking care of my Aunt Adina who is 94 years old. Now Aunt Adina is in a great home and is doing quite well. Aside from having to tell her things over a few times, she seems to be settling in well.
She still has quite a good long term memory. I tolds her a friend of mine had gotten married on the weekend, I told her the name and she said,"doesn't she live far away?" She was right my friend is a missonary overseas. She knows my husband works in the city and knows he is from Manitoba and that we have freinds and family there. She loves to eat.
We usually go in the afternoon right around when the Juice/snack cart comes around. They know already that she like coffee, that it is Half coffee and half cream. She eats her fig newtons really quickly and also finished off my kids cookies as well( they don't like fig newtons). Every time I go there I ask her if she has eaten lunch, she says no, but the worker behind her just quietly says, yes she has. I ask her how lunch was and she just says," it's not as good as my cooking". She is probably right as her cooking used to be amazing, especially her borscht and potatoe salad.
My kids love to draw her pictures, my son always draws a cat and flowers and my daughter usually draws...well...lots of colors on a page. We put up the pictures on her bulletin board after she has closely inspected them and asked the kids about them. My daughter is very fond of Aunt Adina and loves to giver hugs and hold her hand. My son isn't so sure. He loves going there and drawing the pictures, but doesn't like to give her hugs. Aunt Adina also is always greatly infatuated with my daughters purple winter coat.
The last time we were there I told her we had to go now and that I loved her. She just took my hand and rubbed it up and down her cheek and said," I'm so glad you came." I will never... never forget that moment.

That reminded me so much of the visits we used to have with me Grandma. She would just sit beside me and hold my hand and rub it with her soft, worn hands. I miss her so much. Give Adina a hug for me next time you go!
I've come to your blog via Chris's and now I need to know who you really are. I'm Chris's mom and your Aunt Louise was my mom's very best friend when they were girls. She and Roland and Melba and Adina were so kind to me the year I was in Bethany and years later I believe they even contacted our kids while they were at Bethany. Give Chris a call and she can give you my email address or you can tell her "who you are". I read about Louise's passing in the Herald and wondered how it happened. My mom died last May so I can't ask her. What fun the two of them will have meeting each other in Glory.
