When the Cat's away the mice will play. So the saying goes. Trevor was the one gone this week on a work trip down to Minot and then over to Winkler for a brief stop and then home again. So I took the opportunity to get away with the kids. We went to My Uncle Ellwood's farm at Flowing Well ( close to Kelstern and Hodgeville). My mom also came along with us. The purpose was to help pick Saskatoon berries at the farm. So I do hope we were more of a help than a hindrance.
On these types of excursions I like to get some interesting sights in on the way. So we took a different route that led us to Riverhearst Ferry. We stopped to eat while waiting for the ferry to come across the river. It is a about a 15 minute ride . The kids didn't believe me that a boat could carry our van across a river, then to add 6 more cars to that.
The next 3 days were filled with:
- berry picking
- getting to know cousins
-getting acquainted with Maggie, a very lovable dog
-water fights in the rain

- gathering around a big dining table to eat and laugh together
-a lot of catching up on each other's lives
-watching the maiden voyage of Uncle Ellwood's Berry Harvester(too cool!)
- cleaning berries
- Bagging berries

Then on our way home we took a different route again . First we went to Herbert where my mom got to visit with her Aunt Agathe for a little bit, and I took the kids to see the train Museum to look around. Then we went across Gardiner Dam and then home.
It was a great little trip and I think everyone had a great time. I hope we get to do it again next year!
Thanks Uncle Ellwood and Auntie Ann for the hospitality and the memories. ( A special thanks to Auntie Ann for liking the cat picture so much and putting it on the fridge. )
