We have a pretty excited guy in our house. Turning 5 was a very big thing for him. I can tell you that he is looking forward to Kindergarten alot more than I am. Don't get me wrong, I am excited. Watching him grow and learn so much is awesome. But it also means schedules , early bed times, homework, a whole new stage in life. He asks me questions everyday about kindergarten, which is good because he is one of those that needs to know ahead of time what is going on and how things work. He still has a slight problem with changes.
But back to turning 5. We had a party for him yesterday afternoon. Our plan was to have a huge bonfire out in my parents bush but as of today there is still standing water, which also equals lots of bugs!! So we decided to have it at our house. I was hoping/praying for great weather and I thought we were going to get it up until Friday. I was in the city getting stuff for the party when I heard the forecast- cold, windy - rainy. I had great plans for fun games outside, good thing we have a big basement.
So on to the cake. As I was baking the cake for this year I was given a very detailed account of the cakes I made last year( remember the 7 different characters from Cars). This year he asked for a "Mac" cake(also a character from Cars) . So I thought the easy way was to make a highway out of 2 9x13 cakes and put his toy Mac on top with some of the other cars. Yup I set myself up big time for the reaction I was about to get when I described how this cake would look. I got a very deflated " oh " and when I asked if that was alright he turns to walk away and said , again in that very deflated tone," Yeah I guess so". I almost cried right there. I felt like scrooge taking away Christmas. But like I said I got myself into this mess. So when it was time to reveal the cake His eyes did light up and he was excited. I think it was the marshmallows that saved it.
Also on Saturday he asks where the party hats are. Yeah ,I didn't get any. So 1hour before the guests are arriving there I am making the party hats and a little helper beside me putting on the stickers. The hats were a total waste of time nobody really wanted to wear them. Hey at least I delivered!
Our house may have been crowded but I think a good time was had by everyone. I even had a cleaning fairy come and tidy up my kitchen when I wasn't looking...you know who you are... thanks so much! Thanks to everyone who came you made my son's occasion very special.
And any of you family members who are wondering what was done with the monetary gifts, he wants to buy a slide for outside, one of those big 6' yellow ones. Thanks again.
