So I have taken to eating in our walk-in pantry. I actually don't snack much during the day but every once in a while I will grab a cracker or a small piece or chocolate, just to subdue the craving and keep moving. But when my daughter is home I have to be aware because she will have just eaten something and will ask as soon as I have something in my mouth. It is as if she needs to feel full all the time. I mean she packs it away at meals and I let them snack throughout the day but she wants to eat ALL THE TIME! You know how cats come running when a can opener goes? Well she can hear me crack a bag or a wrapper from a mile away. I will open a cracker box and try to make no noise, in 3 seconds she is there asking what is in my mouth.
Now here is where the dumpster diving comes in. I often get that evening craving, The kids are in bed, I sit down to watch TV and will grab a snack. I usually try to go for fruit. Sometimes it is ice cream with a banana or saskatoons on top. So the other morning she noticed a bowl and a spoon sitting on the counter, she inquired if I had eaten cereal already. I just said it was left over from yesterday and put it in the dishwasher. She let it go. Or so I thought. She them pulls a banana peel out of the garbage and asks if I ate that. After the lecture of "you don't pull stuff out of the garbage". She asks if I had ice cream with that banana in the bowl that was left out. Busted.
For a sweet little girl who can't find the dirty clothes left on her floor when I asked her to clean them up, she sure can figure things out when it comes to food.
So lesson learned here:
1) we need to put a door on the pantry
2) clean up any evidence of eating the night before
