I packed up myself and the 2 kids and headed east. Back "Home" for 7 days. The trip down was pretty uneventful except when I got to Moosamin, I was so tired I had to pull over , I slept for 1/2 an hour. The next day I went out with friends do do some shopping, eating and catching up. And celebrating Tara's Birthday! Oh do I miss Olive Garden! Then the adventure(s) began.
Set to leave by noon on wednesday to Grand Forks, ND. Mom calls that she is stuck just north if the yard and could I bring a shovel. No problem , we got her out in a few minutes. So off we go. Well I heard a funny noise as we were driving down 75 to Emerson, Mom was just about to say that the road is really bad when we knew it was a flat tire. So we call CAA, there was a tow truck driving close to us when he got the call to help us! So he proceeds to change the tire when he asks us for the wheel lug key...um what is a wheel lug key? Not a good sign. I guess most cars made after 1996 have a wheel lug key, that is serial number specific to each car, so you can't have your wheels stolen from your car. Yeah, great idea, but we couldn't find it. Luckily the tow truck was a flat bed, so he unloaded the van he had on there and loaded Mom's car up and would come back for the other van later. We were quite close to Altona where Trevor's Brother lives and we got the car unloaded there. Long story short the local tire shop came and got the last wheel lug off( not sure how) Dad drove my Envoy down for us to continue on. So thanks Stephanie for the awesome Pizza! It was an unexpected visit, I was glad to get. We rolled into Grand Forks 7 1/2 hours later( should have only been 3 hours). The kids swam in the amazingly warm pool and I relaxed in the hot tub!
They also enjoyed the hot tub.
The next day was an intense shopping day. We found some great deals at Macy's and Gordmans.
2 of my favorite purchases.
Also as a hint for others travelling with your kids and only 1 parent, get a notarized letter stating the other parent is aware of your travels, if you need a sample letter I have one. They asked for it at the border.
Then the family celebrations happened. Tanya and myself with her youngest at the Birthday Party.
The kids table
Showing Aunt Adeline my new kicks.
What a crazy week, in all the good ways. Even the flat tire was a nice detour because I got to visit with family a bit more. We came home hitting the ground running with School starting the next day , eye appointments, soccer registration, swimming lessons, and Trevor leaving for a business trip.
As for the eye appointment I am excited that we do not have to patch our little girl's eye anymore. We will go back for check-ups over the next 2 years to make sure her eyes are good. But she has full control over her eye now!!
