Simple Question

I am re-reading the book" The Purpose Driven Life". Quite honestly I didn't get all the way through the first time. Call it thinking out loud, but I have a question for you. Let me know what you think.
The book asks:
What would your family and friends say is the driving force in your life? My answer is my kids.
I guess my question is, Is this properly placed?

Mel; I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question right; are you wondering about the priority of kids/family? And suggesting that maybe we can over-emphasize that? Because if you are... I do agree. Obviously, parenting is one of our most important jobs - and most rewarding... but like everything, its something that we can get unhealthily wrapped up in, right? Each of us is still first an individual created by God.. and if we have the privilege of being parents, then that will encompass much of our time and life in adulthood.. but we can't forget that we're more than mom.
Maybe I've missed your point entirely... but I think 'mom' is a big part of my 'purpose' - but its certainly not all that I am.

Kelly you got my point exactly. Because I sometimes( more than not)feel that being a Mom is all that is driving me sometimes and is that why I feel so drained most of my life?

It sounds like you already know the answer to your question. If your kids are driving you (and not to distraction), then you will look to them and their well-being for your satisfaction... they will be the gauge of how your life is going.

(And not saying this is happening successfully in my life) Our lives are to be lived to the glory of God... all that we are and do is to praise Him. God has obviously called you to be a mother, as he has me, and He is our boss. The way I spend my time is evidence to my children of my priorities. Who do I worship? Is it my computer? (cuz I'm sure here a lot!) Is it them? (do I jump to their every desire even when I'm tied up with other responsibilities?)

Do I point my children to Christ? Do I make time to teach them about Him? Do I read scripture with them? Explain that they are to obey because of God's plan for their lives, not my plan for their lives? These are tough. Marriage and children are obviously important, but both they must come AFTER Christ.

Is this too much of a can of worms to open?

Your last paragragh is what I am questioning/struggling with. Yes my kids drive me, but is it with the right priorities? Your right that God has called me to be a mother but I guess lately I am figuring out that it is not all with God's glory in mind. Your last few questions really hit me( in a very good way).

It actually was hard typing out this question on my blog. Because your right I knew the answer but I have not been able to honestly answer it lately. Thanks girls!!
