It all started when we called to Trevor's parents from Brandon, I was told that you might not want to go down the road past Grandma's it has been blowing snow for a couple of days now, go around the hi-way to get home. When it came time to make the decision to either save 3 miles and go down grandma's road or spend the extra 4 miles and go around the long way, we were tired after 8 hours of driving and the kids were very excited to see Grandma and Grandpa. We thought by now the road should be open and we really want to get home. The road was pretty good for the first 1.5 miles then all of a sudden there was a huge drift across the road, it was too late to stop and as Trevor says,"when it comes to snow, when your in too far you just have to pin it!". So pin it he did, we thought the snow would be soft and we could probably plow through it. After the first part of the snow bank we realized how hard and deep the snow was, then we hit the really deep part. There was a huge wall of white on our windshield and the van suddenly stopped dead in it's tracks. Then there was a blood curling scream coming from the peanut gallery in the back. Our poor little girl was terrified and it took quite a few minutes to calm her down and be quiet so we could call for help. So out goes the SOS call. After going out and surveying the damage and waiting for help, we see some headlights coming our way. Here to save us is Trevor's brothers,Tim and Andrew in Tim's Chevy Blazer. Surely the Blazer will pull us out. After realizing there was only one shovel to get some of the snow out of the way, poor Andrew was the only guy shoveling while his brothers looked on, pointing out where to pull more snow out . Well the Blazer couldn't even budge our van, we were just too hung up on the hard snow, or it was the Saskatchewan Rough Riders flag on his truck that put too much weight on the one side so he couldn't get any grip. Then like a Knight in shining armour running to our rescue with a huge beacon on his helmet, came Uncle Fred with the Tractor and snow blower . After he blew a couple of lengths to get to our van we hooked up and he pulled us out of our snowbank. So after we got turned around we headed to Grandma and Grandpa's, the long way. What was going to save us 4 minutes took us and hour. So I say a big thank you to Andrew for shovelling, Tim for... um well...coming out in the cold and supporting your brother and to Uncle Fred for coming out with the tractor and pulling us to safety.
The entrenched van
Here comes the Knight!
